Brazil has exported 11% more pork in October this year compared to year-earlier levels, reaching 54,300 tons, according to data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).
On the other hand, in value, the Brazilian pork exports decreased by 18.8% in October 2018 compared to the similar month from 2017, reaching $97.3 million.
Between January and October, the shipments of pork reached 450,200 tons, volume 10.5% lower than the 502,900 tons exported in 2017. In value, sales for 2018 reached $925.8 million, 26.1% less than the balance of the first 10 months of last year, when pork exports reached $1.252 billion.
“China continues to stand out as the destination with the highest increase in imports, offsetting the losses caused by the closure of the Russian market, now reopened for Brazil. Sales to markets in South America, such as Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, along with Angola, also helped sustain the good performance in October,” explains Ricardo Santin, ABPA’s executive director.
